2020 l 100' l Korea l Color/B&W 감독. 김종신, 정다운 과거, 출판이 탄압받던 시절에 책을 위한 도시를 꿈꿨던 이들이 있었다. 그리고 새로운 건축을 찾고자 했던 건축가들이 이들의 꿈에 동참하면서, 파주라는 군사 접경지역 버려진 늪지에 세계 유일 책을 위한 생태도시를 조성한다. '위대한 계약'이라 불렸던, 30년에 걸친 그 과정과 평화 통일을 꿈꾸는 미래의 책과 문화 도시 이야기. Amid the era when publication was oppressed, there were those who dreamed of a city devoted to books. As architects in search of a “new architecture” take part in this dream, Paju transforms from its past ruin as a military borderland into the sole ecological city of books in the entire universe. A story of the 30-year-old process of which this transformation—so-called the “Great Contract”—took place, and the prospective book and culture city in pursuit of a peaceful unification.

After the catastrophic earthquake in 1963, Skopje became a global demonstration city of the future. UN hired international experts to participate in its reconstruction, the central figure being the Japanese avant-garde architect Kenzō Tange who designed the new center using the principles of the metabolism – its first application outside Japan.

What does it mean to live in the city without a place you can call your own? What role can architects have in addressing homelessness? And how can cities become a better home for all? The film follows a conversation between architects Michael Maltzan (Los Angeles) and Alexander Hagner (Vienna), who have been grappling with these questions over many years and through various projects.
